Accommodation for Those With Disabilities
One very interesting legal area for me has been that of litigation and advocacy regarding accommodations for learning disabilities. Prior to passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), I successfully argued before the Fulton County Superior Court that a state testing agency had to provide accommodations for a candidate with a learning disability who was sitting for a professional licensing exam. In addition, I negotiated a settlement with the Georgia Board of Regents for a client with a learning disability who was unable to pass the Regents Exam for college graduation. In a far-reaching decision, the Regents also agreed to modify future Regents exams to accommodate students with learning disabilities. |
